Why does it matter what we use?

Dear Woods-N-Water News:

The legalization of crossbows in Michigan should have been done years ago. I believe we as sportsman need to advocate and implement crossbow hunting for the following reasons:

1) The DNR has repeatedly approached the subject of wanting higher yields in our deer harvest. A crossbow season would help.

2) The economy of Michigan is bad and a boost in spending would be most helpful for businesses and workers in Michigan.

3) We have dwindling numbers of actual hunters and crossbows offer another option. Bowhunter numbers were low before advances in technology. Crossbows can appeal to a larger/broader market of hunters.

4) The DNR is low on funding, if they had another license to sell, it would help in financing the department.

The number one reason to legalize crossbows; to harvest deer. Why does it matter so much if it is done by bow, rifle, shotgun, muzzleloader, and not crossbows?

By getting more involvement it would stand to reason the higher yield or harvest would be obtainable with more people in the woods, which would help calm the groups of farmers and insurance companies complaining to the DNR.

The legalization of crossbows in Michigan is just what Michigan needs right now. It would rejuvenate the economy; crossbow manufacturers and sporting goods stores, their workers, along with the mom and pop sporting goods stores. Crossbow hunters spend money just like the bowhunters and gun hunters. There is no better time than now to spur our economy, and improve the DNR financially. The most important part is deer herd management, so deer will be here for generations to come.

Again, a harvested animal is just that and whether it is by muzzleloader, bow, rifle, shotgun or a crossbow; it is still a harvested animal.
