Doe license fees upsetting

Dear Woods-N-Water News:

I received the following information in an email from our DNR; "Most antlerless deer licenses will not be discounted this season. The cost is $15 for residents, $138 for nonresidents. Antlerless licenses will be discounted 40 percent, however, in the tuberculosis zone and in Kent County, where chronic wasting disease was detected last summer. Discounted licenses cost $9 for residents, $82.80 for nonresidents."

My response was; I guess trying to control the deer herd this year as in the past has gone to waste, the fees are outrageous and I will not be taking a doe this year because I do not have the extra money to buy a license and donate the doe to our local charity through Michigan Sportsmen Against Hunger program.

Times are very hard for me and I assume other hunters as well. The no discount fees only points toward the DNR being greedy as they have been accused of in the past. I have been a supporter of the DNR in the past, but this makes me upset. Maybe the claim is/has been really true - it's all about the money! May the doe deer herd live forever in Branch County.
