Southern Michigan needs a one buck rule

Dear Woods-N-Water News:

Come on, let's face it, some hunters will not shoot does. In fact a lot of people will not shoot does and that is a huge problem we face in zone 3. I can't speak for Zones 1 and 2 but in the southern half of Michigan the buck to doe ratio is completely out of whack. Many times this hunting season I would see 10 to 15 does and 1 or 2 bucks. I think if we went to a one buck rule, some hunters who normally would not harvest a doe would. Every year I harvest 3 to 4 does, and usually one buck. I think this would solve some problems we face with the people who shoot a spike or a 4 point.

Nothing is more exciting than putting a mature buck in the back of the truck. The DNR needs to revise some of these poor rules we have. A lot of Michigan hunters are going out of state to go shoot nice bucks. Why are we not a state to have people come here and shoot one?

Trust me any growth to the economy here would be a plus, and hunters seem to have no issue spending money. Help us DNR.
