Thieves among us!

Dear Woods-N-Water News

My wife and I were lucky enough to have bought a cabin and five acres in the Manistee National Forest five years ago. I bowhunted several times but was not able to rifle hunt until the day after Thanksgiving. When I arrived to check my stands that are in the National Forest not to far from my cabin, I discovered that they both had been stolen. One was a brand new double person stand purchased in August.

Not only that, someone had stolen almost a full face cord of new firewood from next to my cabin that I purchased Labor Day weekend.

Across the road from our place is a campsite which borders the two track that leads to my stands. I found out from the guys that own property next to me that opening weekend there was a large group of hunters on that campsite. I checked the fire pit they had and there was brand new split wood. These so called "Sportsmen" took it upon themselves to invade my property and steal from me rather than gather fallen wood from the forest. They are most likely also the honorable "Sportsmen" that took my stands ($300 worth). What bothers me is that there was not one honorable man among them that could not speak up and decide that this is the wrong thing to do.

These men were nothing more that common crooks masquerading as "Sportsmen" I hope that they did not have any young people with them that they would have the wrong influence on.

Sincerely

Disgusted Hunter
